Assisi Basilica
On the 800th Anniversary of the foundationof the franciscan Order, the city of Assisi promotes an extraordanary event dedicated to Giotto and the frescoes of the Basilioca of st. Francis.
Unknown facts of his paintings will be revealed by the most modern technologies that aloow us to restore the original works and, when that is not possible, to recreate them in virtual form.
The curator of the initiative is Giuseppe Basile, renowned for his extraordiny work in restoration and research, who made this great event possible...

The restoration of the Chapel of st. Nocila in the lower Church

The project includes, above all, the restoration of Giotto's wall paintings in the Chapel of Saint Nicola in the lower Church, which is the last phase of one of the most important projects of restorantion and research ever to take place in italy. Since the tragic earthquake of 1997, all the basilica of saint Frncis has been focused of structural and restorative works, that allow for a closer look into one of the most fascinating chapters of the Western history of art, where the most important painters of the MIddle Ages left their mark: the Oltremontano Master, the Master of Saint Francis and then Cimabue, Jacopo Torriti, Giotto and successively Pietro Lorenzetti and Simone Martini.

The restotantion site is opened to visitors who will be able to climbon scaffoldings, even if in small groups to closely admire "Giotto's colors" and the skilful work of the restores coordinated by Sergio Fusetti, with the aid of the multilingual audio guide included in the ticket.
